assuming the secretariat responsibilities for SC 34. Interested
National Bodies should make an offer in writing to the JTC 1
Secretariat by Sept. 10, 1998.

Given the establishment of the new SC 34 (former JTC 1/WG 4), Document Description and Processing Languages, the JTC 1 Secretariat is issuing a 3 month Call for National Body interest to assume the Secretariat responsibilities for the new Subcommittee. Responses are due to the JTC 1 Secretariat no later than September 10, 1998.
National Bodies are urged to strongly consider responding affirmatively to this call.
In the interim, the current JTC 1/WG 4 Convener will continue to provide administrative support for this SC with the assistance of the JTC 1 Secretariat.
Please be advised that if no National Body has offered to assume the Secretariat responsibilities of SC 34 by the January 1999 JTC 1 plenary in Brazil, it would be JTC 1’s intention to disband the committee at that time.
