Members of WG4 Japan met once in a month and discussed several topics of

to clarify Japanese positions for the related ballots.
3. Letter Ballots and Comments
WG8 Japan reviewed voting or comments-requesting documents to draft Japan's
position to
- TC1 N5137: Request for a Workshop on Guidelines for Accessing Data and
Metadata Represented in SGML from Database, Knowledge Bases, and Search Tools
- JTC1 N5121: Proposal for a new work item on Font Services
- JTC1 N5122: Proposal for a new work item on Interchange Standard for
Modifiable Interactive Documents
- JTC1 N5123: PDAM1 to ISO/IEC 10744:1997, HyTime
- JTC1 N5138: PDTR 9573-9, Using SGML Public Identifiers for Specifying Data

- JTC1 N5226: Request for National Body Input on the Future Structure and
Operation of JTC 1/WG 4
For the last item, particularly, a number of discussions took place to
submit the following Japanese comments:
The future structure of JTC1/WG4 should configure a new SC containing
several WG's to satisfy increasing user requirements, in particular, for
documents interchange in a web environment. The SC should perform its activities
on the following scope and terms of reference:
To produce standards for languages and resources for the description and
processing of compound and hypermedia documents, including:
- 1. languages for describing document logical structures and their support
facilities
- 2. languages for describing document-like objects in web environments
- 3. document processing architecture and formatting for logical documents
- 4. languages for describing interactive documents
- 5. multilingual font information interchange and related services
- 6. final-form document architecture and page information interchange
- 7. hypermedia document structuring language and application resources
- 8. API's for document processing.
