Activity Report of SC18/WG8 Japan

1. Discussion and Documents

Members of WG8 Japan met once in a month and discussed several topics, e.g.,
- SGML TC
- ISO HTML
- Font Services
- 9573-9
- JTC1 restructuring
- etc.
to create the following documents:

  1. Error report on DSSSL
  2. Error report on SPDL
  3. Comments on Web SGML/TC
  4. Comments on ISO HTML.

The documents will be distributed in the WG8 meeting, Barcelona.

2. Letter Ballots and Comments

WG8 Japan reviewed voting documents to draft Japan's position to
- CD of Font Services (approve with comments)
- PDTR 9573-9 (approve with comments).
They were submitted to SC18 Secretariat. However, the voting summaries did not contain any of those Japanese voting.

Besides, WG8 Japan corresponds to the requests of
- Periodical review of HyTime
- Member assign of ISO HTML discussion
- Comments for Web SGML TC
- Urgent review of WG8 position to JTC1 restructuring.

3. Related Activity

The Japanese translation of SPDL was completed and approves by MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Japan). It will be published as JIS X 4154 in Sept. 1997. The translation of DSSSL was also completed and submitted to MITI for review.
