AFII Withdrawl as ISO 10036 Registration Authority

The Association for Font Information Interchange hereby notifies JTC1, SC18, and WG8 that we will no longer be able to serve as registration authority for ISO/IEC 10036. The existing registration information on CDROM will be made available to the organization you designate as our successor, so they may continue the registration activity unabated.

As the current registrar, I will continue to perform my duties until you notify me of a successor, or until September 15th, 1997, whichever comes sooner. If possible, I will work personally with whomever becomes my successor, to make the transition as smooth as possible. If no one is named as a successor by September 15th, it will be necessary for me to discontinue registration activities. At any time, a copy of the register information is available for your examination.

I have received information from Professor Provan at RIT that the Goudy International Center at RIT may be interested in assuming the register activities. We have also been in contact with the Unicode Consortium, asking if they would be interested. Any agreement about 10036 registrar should be handled between ISO and the prospective registrar, as we do not believe it is appropriate for us to enter into such discussions.

It has been an honor for AFII and our staff to serve the international community during this past five years as ISO registration authority, and we extend to you and the JTC1, SC18, and WG8 committees best wishes.
